Working in New Zealand
[report].nz.everyday life.nature.work.[/report]
finally! we are back!
after our last Report from Christchurch, we got for you a few pictures of our "WWOOF-ing" on a sheep farm in Leeston, south of Christchurch.
wwoof stands for Willing Workers On Organic Farms and describes the working for food and accomondation. Its a sheme where everyone can register on the web, to get a book that lists all wwoofer farms of a countrie. You simply call them and ask if they could need a hand, they will make you an offer for that. Its a very easy system, and exists since years.
Andreas brother was on this farm a year ago, thats how we got to know it. Here is what we've done:
This is the farm! you see the diesel station on the right, a harvester wich we've been reparing in the shed in the background
The got heeps of wood, that need to be cut and carried away
lots of work, but at least we got the strong splitter
The church on the picture is anglikan, wich is the main religion in NZ, brought by the britischone of their tractors! we really liked it, it has nearly no power, very hard to steer, but got this funny front lights!!

another old tractor, they good the new ones too, but they are boring

And it was a sheep farm af course, so we got a little trained as shephards
here we've been drafting them to find out wich are fat enought to sell and wich will stay on the farmfor all who like cute animals

This is the next story: it is on a different farm, wich is owned by the same person as that we've been normally working on. He shares that huge 2300 hectars farm with 2 other partners. Its so big that you can drive around for hours without getting to an end. He also ownes 3 other small farms, so that they have around 3000 hectars farmland at all. (just a little sad comparing: our farm at home is around 120 ha
)This is for you to imagine how the landscape in NZ looks like, this is the canterbury region, but normally its more flat
The big farm includes this wonderful private beach, we've been really lucky to be able to stay here

Thats it from my site, but i can see andreas preparing another report next to me, i think its going to be a long one

Thx for reading, enjoy your day!!
