Thanks for sharing, such a great trip. I love the photos. I also would love to swim next to a manta ray. They just look amazing, I was reading on a book that the mantas are harmless.

Oh a ray...the animal that killed Steve Irwin cry
Steve was killed by the smaller version the stingray, pic from Wikipedia:

The giant mantas are suppose to be harmless

Mantas are usually harmless!
Steve is the only known case of a manta attacking a human as far as i know.

The mantas we saw at that paticular day were MASSIVE. We only went there to see the mantas in the first place - there isnt much other stuff around except a few rocks and the odd fish...
We were diving with a group of about 5 mantas of which the biggest one is on the photo with Julia (the diver below)
She was filming at the same time as well (not sure if u can actually see the camera on the pic...)

Mmm I don't think so. I had to make a presentation about Steve Irwin's life. I found out that Steve's death is the only attack caught on camera but not the only one.

The giant mantas are suppose to be harmless
Yeah, "normally" these animals are considered harmless...but that's a very wide idea. They have instincts and they have a defence mechanism. Sooner or later they'll use it. Just look at Steve now.
